  2. Wanda, with its Disney and Universal rip-off theme parks, will have no future in the industry.

Wuhan movie park already closed. No visitors.

Now, it looks like Jianlin’s Dalian Wanda Group may have some crow to eat. Wanda said this week that its indoor movie theme park in the central Chinese city of Wuhan — which it opened in late 2014 with great fanfare — has been closed for “upgrades and renovations.”

In a brief statement, the company said the facility was closing as of July 31. No reopening date was given.
When the theme park opened, the company said it expected 3 million visitors in the first year. But the Chutian Metropolis Daily, a local newspaper, quoted a former Wanda employee as saying it was only attracting about 200 people per day. Four hundred people came on Sunday, the paper said.

Viacom may be selling its Paramount Pictures stake to Dailan Wanda Group. I wonder what affect that would have on the plans for Paramount-branded theme parks…

China’s Dalian Wanda Group Co. is in talks with Viacom about buying 49% of the studio, according to people familiar with the discussions.

Disney would hate him after all his public attacks on them for sure.

Could a Disney Theme Park Be Coming to Australia?
According to rumors, China’s richest man and chairman of Wanda group, Wang Jianlin, is in talks with the Queensland State Government about the possibility of opening a new theme park and some are speculating it’s a Disney one. The potential location would be in Coomera, Queensland, near many of the other continent’s major attractions.

Paramount has been in talks with Wanda Group but whether it's for a future Paramount Park in China is not yet confirmed.

  8. From an insider perspective I can tell for sure that Wanda will eventually fail with its theme park plans. They have no concept and no strategy, they just want to be 'bigger'. It won't work.

More news on the potential Europe Wanda development.

the name announced for this theme park "Europa City" may indicate that Europa Corp director and producer Luc Besson might be part of the project, specially considering that the supposed location of the theme park would be at 10km north of Paris, more or less where Luc Besson already have his movie studios. This is a point which remain to be confirmed, though.

An interesting rumour this morning about Wanda potentially moving into Europe.

The development, being built by property company Immochan, will include a theme park, shopping center, water and snow parks, sports fields, performance spaces and hotels, according to the site.
Wang’s film, tourism and sports operations all fall under Wanda’s fast-growing Cultural Industry Group, which saw revenue climb 46 percent last year and is forecast to climb 30 percent in 2016.
