There is no connection between Wanda funding Sony films and the ability to make attractions from that. Never seen any evidence of that in any release. Also, Wanda only does China film IP in their parks.

Dalian Wanda Group Co., controlled by billionaire Wang Jianlin, has hired the former head of Hong Kong Disneyland to run its amusement parks, according to a person familiar with the matter.Source: http://www.wsj.com/articles/wanda-hires-former-disneyland-executive-to-run-theme-parks-1476681714Andrew Kam will serve as vice president of the Chinese company’s Cultural Tourism Group
Long term trip planning for 2020 or 2021 Asia trip is part China trip that would go Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Yangtze River Cruise, Yichang to Changsha/Zhangjiajie, Huangshan/Yellow Mountains or on the Shanghai directly from Yichang.
It seems Wanda is building parks near all major and future major High Speed Train Station towns. The line from Xi'an to Chengdu should be complete around this time as well.
Hefei Wanda City is now open.
The chairman of Dalian Wanda Group opened the doors Saturday on his company's $3.6 billion theme park in the city of Hefei, the capital of China's eastern Anhui Provence. The development is the second of a planned 15 mega-resorts the tycoon has vowed to build by 2020, as his conglomerate vies with Disney for dominance of China's rapidly emerging theme parks business. The new Hefei Wanda City spans some 365 acres and includes an outdoor theme park, indoor water park, shopping mall, cinema attraction, dozens of restaurants and bars and a cluster of luxury hotels. At the opening ceremony Saturday, Wang announced that Wanda would invest another $1.5 billion to build more indoor entertainment facilities at the park within two to three years.Source: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/wanda-battles-disney-china-theme-932386In addition to the world's tallest rollercoaster loop, highlights at Hefei Wanda City include themed lands based on Anhui's ancient architecture, Chinese acrobats, a streetside display of traditional crafts and a pyrotechnic stage show recreating the historic Battle of Feishui, a legendary episode well known to Chinese school kids.
They can't get Spiderman, I think Disney bought the theme park rights to that when Marvel reached an agreement with Sony.
The Chengdu park is still moving forwards. It is however quite a way out of the city in a different town that I believe is a bit of a holiday destination in China.
They have also announced their own park in Chongqing which will be to the west of the main city.
Both these parks are way in the future though. 2019 at the earliest from what I remember.
Looks like Wanda's deal with Sony gains them IP rights for theme parks.
Wasn't there a Wanda park for Chengdu planned? With the Chongqing park and Happy Valley adding two coasters in Chengdu. Did that one get cancelled?
Wanda are looking to expand further into film production
Dalian Wanda already owns Legendary Entertainment and AMC’s cinema chain.
Chinese property-to-entertainment conglomerate Dalian Wanda is in talks to buy a controlling stake in Dick Clark Productions, the company that runs the Golden Globe awards and Miss America pageants, as it expands a growing Hollywood portfolio.
Run by China’s richest man, Wang Jianlin, Wanda already owns Legendary Entertainment, co-producer of film hits such as “Jurassic World” – which was the biggest U.S.-China movie deal when it was sealed in January. It also owns U.S. cinema chain AMC Entertainment Holdings.Source: http://fortune.com/2016/09/27/china-wanda-dick-clark-productions/Revenue from Wanda‘s cultural division, which also includes its growing tourism business, theme parks and sports, is expected to grow at least 30% this year, potentially reaching 70 billion yuan ($10.5 billion), according to Wang.
Hefei Wanda City, about 500 kilometers (311 miles) west of the $5.5 billion Shanghai Disney Resort, will open to the public on Saturday. Besides theme park facilities, the 35 billion yuan ($5.2 billion) development will include hotels, a movie theater, a shopping mall and residential apartments across 160 hectares (1.6 square kilometers), according to Wanda.Wang is planning more Wanda City projects in cities such as Harbin, Guangzhou and Wuxi. Wanda said Friday Chongqing Wanda City, which will cost about 55 billion yuan to build, has started construction and will probably attract 20 million visitors annually after it’s completed by 2020. He also aims to open five of the projects overseas by the end of the decade.Behind the wave of theme parks is China’s growing middle class, which is fueling demand for leisure activities. There are about 300 parks in operation already in China with scores more on the way, according to Macquarie Group Ltd. estimates in January. The government predicts the nation’s $610 billion tourism industry will double over five years.
