    Interesting:

‘Mohammed Bin Rashid City’ will feature a massive park which will be 30 per cent bigger than Hyde Park in London. It will be surrounded by the largest mall in the world called ‘Mall of the World’, which will be capable of receiving 80 million visitors a year, and include over 100 hotel facilities to meet the requirement for accommodation.

‘Mall of the World’ will be connected to a family entertainment centre which will be developed in collaboration with Universal Studios International. This centre will be the largest in the region and is expected to attract 6 million visitors each year.

"in collaboration with Universal Studios" - is this supposed to be another indoor theme park like the one proposed for Moscow?

Looked up the location on Google Earth and found the site. This is certainly not a live project... it's totally dead, at least for now:

    Universal Studios Dubai aerials 2007-2011

Let's take a look at Google Earth. Satellite pictures always tell the truth.

20 August 2007, before everything started:

23 April 2008, construction in full swing:

    15 August 2009, construction stopped:

    2 April 2010, nothing happening:

22 August 2011, the desert slowly takes it back:

    Let's zoom a bit closer.

    2009:

    2010:

    2011:

  6. Now you can experience the magic of movie sets as Universal Studios takes shape in DUBAILAND.
Absolutely untrue. There is no progress on Universal Studios!

This is what I found when I was looking on their website:

  8. Looks like they got pretty far with it, the whole structure seems to be engraved in the desert. Would be great to see Universal Studios coming alive in Dubai, after all these property downturn years. I think now is the time to get it restarted!

Here's pics taken many years ago... Universal was abandoned for half a year or so already... You can see the digging for the would-be-lake in the last four pics! Wonder if they'd continue on this location assuming that it ever gets a green light again

Universal Studios Dubai still in the works?

Comcast gained control of the Universal parks last year when it paid $13.75 billion to General Electric for 51 percent of NBCUniversal. Comcast quickly doubled down on the business, spending $1 billion to buy a stake in Universal Orlando owned by the Blackstone Group. G.E. and Blackstone were both more interested in wringing cash from the parks than expanding them; selling them entirely was regularly on the table.

But Comcast is different. “We’re really feeling the love,” said Mr. Williams, Universal’s chief.

Comcast has increased spending on the parks — by how much it won’t say — and is betting on strong international growth. Universal announced a deal in April to open a park in Moscow by the end of the decade. The company, which opened a park in Singapore two years ago, also has resorts in the works in South Korea and Dubai; it is pursuing a deal in China.
