Now it's official!

After 13 years of negotiations and planning, Universal Parks & Resorts said Monday it would open a $3.3-billion, 300-acre theme park in Beijing. The company and its Chinese partners did not set an opening date, but state-run media said the complex would debut in 2019.

This new article (in Chinese) mentions Tianjin once again as the location for the Mainland Universal Studios Park. Tianjin can be reached on a one hour high-speed train ride from Beijing.

It would be strange if these pictures – taken in June 2014 on the proposed Universal Studios site – weren't depicting preparation for the park. The area of demolition is way too large for an ordinary property development or a mall:
