  1. Iger, who made the announcement at the company’s D23 Expo alongside director J.J. Abrams, actor Harrison Ford and other cast members from the upcoming film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, called the new land “our largest single-themed land expansion ever.”

It will include a ride that will allow visitors to take control of the Millenium Falcon, the spaceship from George Lucas’ original 1977 film. Another attraction will drop guests into “a climactic battle between the First Order and the resistance.”

Stores and restaurants in the new area will all conform to the theme as well, including a reproduction of the 1977 film’s famed “cantina” bar. A similar 14-acre Star Wars land will be built at Disneyworld’s Hollywood Studios theme park in Orlando, Fla. No timeline was given for the projects’ completion.

  3. Disney CEO Bob Iger said during an earnings call on Tuesday that the company is "developing designs for a far greater 'Star Wars' presence in the parks," according to multiple reports.

“When we grow ‘Star Wars'' presence, which we will do significantly, you will see better bets being made that will pay off for us than were made in the past,” Iger said, according to Variety.

Details of the expansion will not be revealed until next year.

  4. MiceChat has some disturbing news on the Disney parks front. According to them, Disney's NextGen park expansion project "is wildly over budget, way behind schedule, and not pulling in the extra profits it was supposed to," leading a "furious" Disney CEO Bob Iger to tell Walt Disney Imagineering to stop working on all NextGen projects that are currently in the works.

"The result," MiceChat reports, "is that dozens of Imagineers who were working on Star Wars and other plans for Anaheim have now been told to stop their work and are reassigned to work on Shanghai Disneyland (and its conveniently separate budget) for at least the next 90 days."

Here's more from their story where they discuss the Star Wars park expansion that is supposed to hit Disneyland in Anaheim, CA:

Originally the plan to add Star Wars to Tomorrowland was going to be divided into two phases; a first phase involving some placemaking and a replacement for Captain EO to be finished prior to the 60th Anniversary, and a second phase kicking off in late 2015. The second phase included the Speeder Bike E Ticket ride, Ewok village and forest where Autopia currently is, a Millenium Falcon walk-thru where the PeopleMover platform is, tearing out the decaying PeopleMover tracks and moving the Astro Orbiter up on top of the Space Mountain concourse, and turning Tomorrowland Terrace into an interactive Tatooine Cantina restaurant show. All of that is now on hold indefinitely.

Star Wars Land at Disneyland Anaheim's Tomorrowland (rumor)

The latest report details even more ways they’re hoping to give Tomorrowland, current home of Space Mountain and Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, a Star Wars makeover. Most prominently, current attractions Innoventions and Autopia will be removed to make room for a massive, Return of the Jedi Speeder Bike thrill ride. They’re also considering a reproduction of the Millennium Falcon to be parked on the landing pad in the middle of the area people can walk though, right next to a Cantina.
