A reporter recently visited the site of Six Flags Nanjing which never even started construction. All that remains is the structure for the preview center and some old promotional signage. According to a worker stationed at the shutdown construction site, "the project has been suspended for nearly a year".

'The Paper', a Chinese news publication, today came out with an in-depth article about Six Flags in China including the history of the developments and the current status of the parks

Here's a few key points from the article:

- The parks planned for Nanjing are still moving forward with a planned opening date now in 2022.
- The current plan for the Nanjing project is to invest 600 million yuan in 2020 and then complete the preview center by the end of the year.
- Within a year from now Six Flags Nanjing is expected to complete installation of the waterpark.

According to a recent article, Riverside Group, the Chinese company developing the Six Flags parks in China is laying off a large amount of its staff, for instance going from 754 staff at their headquarters office to soon just 65 staff at the headquarters office. Regarding the Six Flags parks planned for Nanjing, the project has been delayed. Construction is still happening but at a very slow pace. The first part to open, the preview center, is still under construction with no clear opening date.

Six Flags has officially announced 3 more parks for China to be built in Nanjing

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (NYSE: SIX), the world’s largest regional theme park company, and its development partner, Riverside Investment Group Co. Ltd., today announced continued growth in the China market with the planned addition of three new branded parks. The parks will be located in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province and the second largest city in the East China region. Six Flags Nanjing will offer guests a full range of world-class experiences with a theme park, waterpark, and an adventure park. The first phase of the multi-million dollar entertainment complex is expected to open in 2021.

BREAKING: Third Six Flags theme park announced for China!

This past week, September 16, 2017, a signing ceremony took place for a Six Flags branded theme park to be built in a new cultural tourism development in Lishui, Nanjing, China.
