A reporter recently visited the site of Six Flags Nanjing which never even started construction. All that remains is the structure for the preview center and some old promotional signage. According to a worker stationed at the shutdown construction site, "the project has been suspended for nearly a year".

According to Guancha Syndicate, a Chinese news site, Six Flags Chongqing was eventually taken over by the Chongqing Municipal Government. Riverside Group had only provided operation management and the Six Flags brand. In addition, someone at Riverside Group admitted in an interview that the Chongqing project has indeed transferred part of its equity to State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (“SASAC”) of the Chongqing Municipal Government.

'The Paper', a Chinese news publication, today came out with an in-depth article about Six Flags in China including the history of the developments and the current status of the parks

Here's a few key points from the article:

    - Sunac is confirmed to have taken over the parks in Chongqing as well as the already confirmed parks in Zhejiang.
    - At least one unspecified Six Flags park in Chongqing (assumed to be the waterpark which has already begun slide installation) is scheduled to open in 2021.
    - The parks planned for Nanjing are still moving forward with a planned opening date now in 2022.
    - The current plan for the Nanjing project is to invest 600 million yuan in 2020 and then complete the preview center by the end of the year.
    - Within a year from now Six Flags Nanjing is expected to complete installation of the waterpark.

Thanks. It looks like Six Flags will be taking a "one time" loss on the development in their 4th quarter of 2019.

Any idea how much of an investment Six Flags has made thus far? Or is the capital investment all Riverside's and it's a royalty/franchise type arrangement?
