Groundwork has started on Qiddiya Coast, so not necessarily on the theme park specifically yet, but this project is moving forward.

Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC) has awarded local contractor Abdul Mohsen al-Tamimi Partner Group a contract for the early works on the Qiddiya Coast project, located north of Jeddah.

The contract is valued at about SR1bn ($266m).

Situated on a natural Red Sea promontory one hour north of Jeddah. This new 13.5 km2 development will set a global benchmark for water-based entertainment. With 8 km of turquoise blue coastline, sandy beaches, lagoons, and mangroves, The Water-based Entertainment District will combine state-of-the-art water parks and attractions with a full range of leisure, adventure, and eco based tourism activities, creating a destination of unparalleled and world-class appeal for both domestic and international visitors. It will be supported by a complete offering across hospitality, retail, and F&B, plus extensive residential options aimed at creating a ‘coastal community’ of weekend retreats and second homes.

For a client in the Middle East, Zeitgeist conceived and designed a transformative new theme park along the Red Sea north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The sea-themed park breaks new ground with a central “Fantasy Harbor” that combines real and fantasy ships in an admission-free retail, dining and entertainment boardwalk. Around the perimeter of this magical marina are four themed lands that celebrate European and Middle Eastern pirates, a legendary Middle Eastern lost city, ocean myths and Middle Eastern fairy tales. The project is currently awaiting approval by the Saudi Arabian government to proceed into schematic design.

It turns out that Qiddiya Coast, which I thought might be the name of the waterpark next to Six Flags, might actually be an entirely separate, new giga-project in Saudi Arabia:

Based on the above profile pictures, it looks like a new Qiddiya-branded development, master planned by HKS, will be located on the Red Sea north of Jeddah. This is not The Red Sea Project, NEOM, AMAALA, or Jeddah Central. The location of this project is a large plot of land adjacent to Durrat Al-Arous: https://goo.gl/maps/KwkCdFWdqsWxgiFg7

Some of the labels on the masterplan include:

    - Qiddiya Festival Grounds
    - Mid-End Apartments
    - Sea Dreams (Water Theme Park)
    - Qiddiya Central Hub
    - Arts Lagoon
    - Lagoon Villa Neighborhood
    - Port Qiddiya Townhomes
    - Parks, Dining & Entertainment
    - Eco Exploration Centre
    - Mangrove Villas Neighborhood
    - Port Qiddiya Community
    - Oceanarium
    - Qiddiya Walk

Some of the other labels are difficult to read - I think one of them says something Pier and another says "Blue Planet" and then there's something in parentheses after it, maybe "Water Entertainment"?
