Site Preparation Completed for Shanghai Disneyland's Zootopia-themed Expansion, Main Construction Has Commenced

As an exciting reflection of growth, Shanghai Disney Resort today announced that the site preparation work has been completed and main construction has officially commenced on Shanghai Disneyland's newest and eighth themed land, Zootopia, marking a key milestone in bringing the beloved Zootopia story to life for guests at the resort.

Probably it will be a mix of MMRR system with a "new generation of EMV", which sounds great. The area has already been covered with "City of Zootopia" walls.

Read somewhere that the main (and probably only ride) will use the same 2 ½-D technology that Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway will use.

@gourmetdyy on Twitter is reporting that the Zootopia-themed area will be opening in 2021 in celebration of Shanghai Disney Resort's 5th anniversary

Also Disney Parks Blog said the following about the area's main (and possibly only) ride:

a new major attraction that will seamlessly blend Disney storytelling and state-of-the-art technology to bring this fan-favorite movie and its characters to life – including Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde

Here's concept art for the expansion which will include "new attractions, entertainment, shopping and dining options." Construction will begin later this year.
