Carolaux-Paradis, a local body shop, also remodeled and repainted the truck’s exterior and surrounding props at the Catastrophe Canyon scene, as well as the Studio Tram Tour’s vehicles. For Christophe Gomy, the shop’s co-owner who has worked with Disneyland Paris for 25 years on projects like the Space Mountain canon, the steady workload at the resort is more than welcome.

There are a couple of things to note here...

    1) HKDL is now 15 years old and pre-dates any good relationship between the Chinese government and Disney. Hong Kong was the only option at that time for getting anywhere near the Chinese market and I believe that if it were to be built today Hong Kong would not be considered.

    2) The main reason is economic. Shanghai for example has close to 27million residents to compare with London's 9m and New York's 8.5m people. China is going through its own economic revolution where wages are rising along with standards of living, the middle class in China is growing ,and will continue to do so for a good time to come. That money is getting spent on leisure activities and the brands see an opportunity for growth in a growing market.

    3) Government policy is changing. China was always closed to "western" brands and insulated against the rest of the world. As the Government policies change they become more accessible and open to trade, tourists and foreign investment. They don't necessarily need overseas tourists to have a population to visit the park but it helps that Disney, Universal etc can bring in workers from their home countries to oversee projects.

I hope that helps, there is a lot more complexity that that but that should give you an idea of what is happening in the background.

National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed) will build and operate a new dedicated plant at the SeaWorld Abu Dhabi site by 2022.
Once completed, “the development will benefit from a reliable, technologically advanced and sustainable source of cooling interconnected to the Yas Island centralised cooling scheme”, said Tabreed.

Under the terms of a deal agreed with developer Miral, Tabreed will connect the new SeaWorld Abu Dhabi development to its existing Yas Island district cooling scheme while the new plant is under construction. This will deliver a cooling capacity of 7,500 refrigeration tons with a total concession capacity of 15,000 refrigeration tons (RT).
Gurjit Singh, chief portfolio officer at Miral added: “We are pleased to be expanding our partnership with Tabreed, a state-of-the-art cooling infrastructure on Yas Island, delivering crucial cooling services to many of our award-winning theme parks. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is set to be Yas Island’s next mega attraction, and with this agreement, we ensure the continuous delivery of trusted, reliable and energy-efficient services to our growing portfolio of developments. This is yet another step towards our vision of positioning Yas Island as a top global destination for leisure and entertainment.

I love this concept art showing how a second park would fit into the existing expansion pad.

I love how every time this park gets talked about there is always reference to Disney Parks - this is highly irresponsible. It fails to acknowledge the losses Disneyland Paris Resort has made in its years of operation and how much it is subsidised by the international parks and Disney's other income streams. If the London Resort makes losses like Disney and its partners have done on Disneyland Paris it will be completely financially unsustainable.

Yes, Disneyland Paris generates a lot of money for the local economy, that's a great ambition for the London Resort to have but if it isn't making money to fund itself it will very quickly go bankrupt and there is no big brand backing like Disney has to foot the bill when it does.

I am glad they finally have planning in, I really hope this comes off but, for the love of God, please stop comparing to a park that has absolutely zero in common with the project.

Permits for individual buildings at Epic Universe have continued to be posted over the last several months. Plan review comments for Donkey Kong's show building (B1315) were recently added to its permit from last month. (Fees have not been paid though, except for temporary work.)

This article backs what I have been saying all along and matches up with the response I got during the consultations about investment. They are looking for Middle Eastern and Indian backing to buy up timeshare hotel rooms and investment properties. This is what drove the theme park bubble in Dubai for a long time and how many of those got built? Many have the apartments and hotels but no park after years, many have never even delivered the items that were sold.

“Generally speaking, those whom we’ve spoken to have been of Middle Eastern origin,” said James Hayward, investment director at London-based investment brokerage Farrbury Capital Partners.

“We market globally... We still have healthy investment in the UK, although I would also say those who invest from the UK have been predominantly of Middle Eastern descent. It is very, very popular in this neck of the woods. So that’s predominantly where we are seeing investment coming from,” he added.
This project is not about the theme park at all, it never has been - it's a regeneration project and an investment project ran by investment people. Look at the make up of the project team right now - how many of those people have theme park experience? How many have investment or property experience? You can put out all the concept art you like (or not in this case) but unless you have people who have delivered parks before it will fail to be realised.

I would love to see this park built but it's so pie in the sky I just don't see it happening.
