Loopagoon, the first women's only waterpark, opened on September 1st in Saudi Arabia. It's not a huge waterpark but it's certainly an interesting concept.

Yes, it's the same ride format that they use for Ratatouille. Cars are dispatched together because the trackless vehicles move independently of each other so don't need to wait for the "previous" vehicle to be dispatched first. So you get a similar throughput as you would expect with an omni-mover but with the vehicles going in a single dispatch so the ride doesn't have to be linear and repetitive like a regular dark ride would be.

Ratatouille doesn't hit 60 per dispatch (off the top of my head it's 15 for DLP) but I would suspect it has a similar hourly throughput given what this ride looks like overall because Ratatouille is very linear and dispatches are very regular.

10 riders per car, 60 people per dispatch is massive. I guess Disney agreed to do OLC’s request to increase capacity on its rides moving forward. Frozen and Tangled I would think will have large capacity boats.

"The good thing about working at Merlin is that you have the opportunity to keep challenging yourself on an on-going basis. The beauty of this job is that you feel the achievement when you see the smiling face of a kid after riding the attraction." Steve Hong - Senior Project Manager at LEGOLAND Resort Korea.

The famous Spanish leisure complex PortAventura World aims to build a fourth park, dedicated to football, next to the three already existing ( PortAventura , Costa Caribe Aquatic Park and Ferrari Land ).
The first phase, with a budget of 10 million euros, will include a virtual game which will be offered from the next football season 2021-2022. But also a digital center, a restaurant and a shop offering LaLiga products .

The second phase of the project consists of a themed attraction of LaLiga . The budget is 40 million euros, which is already considerable for an attraction.

Still in development at the time of writing, the third phase, much more ambitious, is the culmination of the creation of the park, with substantial infrastructure. The investment for this last phase is an additional 100 million euros.

Everything went quiet pretty much as soon as this was reported. There was definitely something being worked on because the Resorts World team took reporters on a press tour and announced it which, for them, is usually a good indication that they are actually working on something unlike some other companies.

There is only one thing that has opened since in that area that fits the bill for what this might have been and it opened quite recently at the end of 2019.

It's called Novotown and includes some of the elements which were described originally in the Resorts World releases such as theme park rides, cinemas, VR experiences etc. You can find out more here https://chinaattractionsexpo.org/2020/01/15/industry-news/lai-sun-group-announces-opening-of-novotown-on-hengqin-island-china/

I may be wrong but this looks to me like the project was scoped but Resorts World pulled out and the IP brought in was Motiongate and another operator took it on.

Does anyone else know anything about this project and what might have happened?

    A possible LEGOLAND in Belgium?

This is the huge news of the day, which will delight Belgian park enthusiasts. The British group Merlin Entertainments is studying the establishment of a new Legoland amusement park in Charleroi (Gosselies), on the former Caterpillar site .
According to the daily, which mentions an actor close to the issue, the alternative Legoland amusement park seems quite solid today and even mentions a 75% chance of getting there!

Merlin Entertainments is looking to develop a new Legoland park with attractions, hotels and restaurants in central Europe and needs an area of ??100 hectares. This is precisely the size of the Caterpillar site . The proximity of Charleroi airport, the motorway and rail network as well as the availability of labor are undoubtedly major assets.
This operation is carried out jointly by Merlin Entertainments and the Walloon Region. Merlin is ready to put 100 million euros on the table. The entire project is estimated at 300 million. The group hopes to raise 200 million from investors within 6 weeks.
The site which is being investigated.

In August it looked like the housing market was failing KAEC and the rulers were looking for ways to encourage local residents to buy up property.

Saudi nationals can benefit from housing offers and real estate financing to buy constructed homes or residential land
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) has inked a cooperation agreement with National Commercial Bank – the kingdom’s second-largest bank by market capitalisation – to provide financing solutions compatible with the provisions of the Islamic Sharia law.
Real estate owners in KAEC can also benefit from the Ministry of Housing’s mortgage products, self-construction of homes, completion of construction of homes, and housing support, according to the state-run Saudi Press Agency.
Perhaps the lack of news on the theme park and attractions front is due to this lack of interest in the housing market which is being used to fund the leisure developments?
