In Dubai's first wave of theme park development, Tatweer's Dubailand would have featured more than half a dozen theme parks. In original plans, first to open would have been Universal Studios, Legoland, and Six Flags. These early sketches and renderings were developed during Six Flags Dubailand's blue sky concept design phase;

China's Ding Long group has announced plans to develop two theme parks at their Loong Bay resort on China's southern coast. One of these park's is Animal Empire- a large scale zoological park. Legacy Entertainment, the project's designer, has stated their goal is to design a park that is more sanctuary than zoo, and in which the animal enclosures are visually borderless, with their inhabitants able to roam through much of the property unimpeded.

Prior to 2008's 'Great Recession', Tropicana Las Vegas was poised to become the world's largest resort, with over 10,000 rooms. Part of this expansion included the world's first 3D boat ride. This unique attraction would have begun its journey in the upper level retail promenade, before dropping into a show box under the resort (in the space currently occupied by the property's casino).

Enlight Media, China's largest film and television studio, has announced plans to build a 651 acre Universal Studios-style theme park and production facility in the city of Yangzhou. Budgeted at $2.5m USD, Enlight announced today that they have selected Legacy Entertainment as the project's designer, releasing a few pieces of concept art depicting the project's first phase, titled 'Enlight Epicenter'.

CHINA’S ENLIGHT MEDIA TEAMS UP WITH LEGACY ENTERTAINMENT ON THE CREATION OF ENLIGHT CHINA MOVIE WORLD

Beijing Enlight Media, China’s largest privately-owned media group, has selected Legacy Entertainment as the ‘Enlight Epicenter’ designer of its ambitious Enlight Movie World project in the eastern city of Yangzhou. The project, first announced in 2018, marks Enlight Media’s first foray into the Location Based Entertainment sector, and will ultimately encompass a total area of 3954mu (651 acres) with an investment of 16.4 Billion Yuan ($2.5 Billion US Dollars).

The cultural and tourism section of Enlight Movie World starts from the ‘Enlight Epicenter’, which will feature experiences and attractions inspired by Enlight’s popular animated film properties. Offerings will include elaborately themed retail and dining experiences, anchored by a Family Entertainment Center, and connected by a series of ‘Art Gardens’. To aid in the design of this unique destination, Enlight has selected Legacy Entertainment, a leading entertainment design firm with extensive experience in both theme park design and film production.

“It is an honor to collaborate with the Enlight team on such a great project.” says Eric Carnagey, Legacy’s Managing Director and one of the company’s owners. He adds “Unlike studio-themed parks in America and Europe which tend to look towards the past, the relative youth of China’s homegrown IP-based LBE industry is all about looking forward. We get a unique chance to imagine and create the ‘film studio and movie theme park of tomorrow’ by utilizing Enlight’s prominent position as a China-based film production and distribution company alongside their widely recognized properties. This poses an incredibly exciting creative angle for our team to run with.”

Subsequent phases will include a wide variety of uses, including a world-class Theme Park, along with expansive Film and Television production facilities. Fueled by a string of hits that include Ne Zha and Looking Up, this new complex has been designed to meet the needs of the fast-growing entertainment company. Ne Zha holds the record as the biggest animated film in China’ history, having grossed over $580 Million US Dollars, more than doubling that of the previous record holder, Disney’s Zootopia.

Legacy Entertainment was uniquely qualified for the task, having previously worked with China’s Hengdian World Studios, the world’s largest film studio, on their recent expansions. The first of these projects, the Hengdian Shanghai Bund, debuted in 2019 with a mix of theme park-style rides and shows, along with ample production facilities.

“Just as in our extensive collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, we love working with brands which are expanding into location-based entertainment projects for the first time.” adds Carnagey. “With groups like Enlight, we have the chance to create something completely new because there are no rules in place. What is the studio-themed destination of the future? Working closely with a great collaborator like Enlight, we are looking forward to answering that question in new and exciting ways.”

In early iterations of the project (circa 2015), when the entire project carried the Cirque du Soleil banner, the main Phase 1 anchor was an elaborately-themed Water Park. Inspired by immersive theater trends, the entire park would have been populated by Cirque du Soleil characters created for this project, with different tribes including The Oracles, The Healers, The Builders, and The Fishers inhabiting different sections of the park.Those familiar with Cirque du Soleil will notice subtle nods to its flagship production, "O".

'Lorry's Fantastic Fountains' is a custom-themed Zamperla Tea Cup Ride designed for the 'Royal Garden' section of Lotte's Magic Forest theme park.

Designed for one of China's largest developers, Legacy Entertainment has been developing a dramatic indoor water park complex.

In 2014, Legacy Entertainment created Lotte World's iconic 'Let's Dream!' nighttime spectacular, which continues to run today. Before this, in 2007, Legacy Entertainment proposed another night show concept for the Korean theme park, tentatively named 'Lightspell!'.

'Sentul City of Wonders' is a large mixed-use destination proposed for the city of Sentul, Indonesia (a suburb of the capital city of Jakarta). Renderings of the overall themed resort design have been shared below for context. In the development's central courtyard sit two gated attractions- a boutique theme park and water park. The theme park has been designed to feature a mix of western stories, as well as Indonesian fairy tales (much in the same was as Legacy Entertainment has interpreted Korean folklore in their world at Lotte World). In recent years, Legacy Entertainment has dominated the emerging Indonesian theme park market, having designed and opened several theme parks, including Trans Studio Bali, Trans Studio Cibubur, and Trans Studio Makassar.

'Sentul City of Wonders' is a large themed mixed-use resort proposed for Sentul, Indonesia.

In early schemes of the project, one of the 'signature attractions' was to have been a Cliff Diving experience inspired by Acapulco's famed 'La Quebrada'. Guests would be able to leap off of platforms located at 1m, 3m, 5m, and 7m. To soften the impact on the water below, the aeration (bubble) system from Cirque du Soleil's production of "O" in Las Vegas would have been utilized here. At night, the attraction would be transformed into a stage for a live Cirque du Soleil performance. Like the rest of the park, this attraction was designed in collaboration by the teams of Legacy Entertainment and Cirque du Soleil.

When the project initiated in 2016, the theme park's designer, Legacy Entertainment, explored a wide variety of attractions and themes with the goal of creating a 'Magic Forest' garden-themed park completely different from anything else available in the Asia market. Whereas most non-Disney / Universal theme parks in Asia put a great deal of value on spectacle and meaningless design features, the Lotte project team put great emphasis on creating a park that was 'human scale', and was more-focused on creating warm, magical spaces as opposed to cold, empty environments.

It is important to note that many of these concepts were developed during the exploratory Blue Sky phase, and are not represented in the park's first phase, under-construction now. However, several do have parcels allocated for them in future phases.

One of HotGo DreamWorld's signature attraction is the Lost World Safari, located in the park's 'Adventure Tales' land. Instead of using a traditional dark ride system, this attraction was designed to utilize off-the-shell safari jeeps from Africa.

Unrelated to the theme park project at Vidanta's Puerto Vallarta resort, Legacy Entertainment and Cirque du Soleil also collaborated on the design of a "Cirque Camp" experience in which visitors would be able to learn various circus arts performed in the company's productions. In addition to timed classes, there would also be "free play" zones that would allow guests to participate at their leisure.

One of HotGo DreamWorld's most unique attractions was an update on the popular 'Antique Cars' driving ride found at many parks around the world (most notably, Disney's Autopia). In Legacy Entertainment's design, the vehicles were designed to be amphibious. The bulk of the attraction would have taken riders on a tour of the park's Fantastic Tales land, with a finale that would send guests into the land's central lagoon, followed by a surprise Car Wash epilogue.

The facility which changed the most between design and opening was the "Science Pavilion" located in the Port Majestic winter-themed zone. In the original design, this was to have been a "Science Pavilion" which would house two main components- a domed projection show, and numerous classrooms and auditoriums for the park's educational outreach programs. In the end, the decision was made to combine with Science Pavilion with the Penguin Pavilion. The projection dome remained, but the space designated for the classrooms is now occupied by the park's penguin exhibit.

Treasure Coast is a large resort development proposed for the Chinese coastal city of Quanzhou. As seen in this set of renderings, it contains a number of entertainment components, including an aquarium, a water park, beach club, retail promenade, and most notably, a hilltop theme park.

'Great Galloping Goats' is a custom Zamperla 'Jump Around' family flat ride designed as part of the park's 'Joyful Meadows' farm themed zone.

In early schemes of the project's design, during which the entire resort was branded Cirque du Soleil, the main element of the initial phase was to have been a highly-unique Water Park. The entrance to the water park was the 'Temple of the Blue Flame'- a wooden evocation of a classic Cirque du Soleil 'Grand Chapiteau' (Big Top). Inside, visitors would have found Ticketing, Guest Services, Turnstiles, Retail, and Changing Rooms. As seen in this concept art, the temple was to have been animated by 'Flame Keeper' characters. The water park would have immersed guests in a fantasy realm inspired by elements of Aztec and Mayan culture, and was so richly-detailed that it even featured its own alphabet.

During the Mark Shapiro era of Six Flags, Legacy Entertainment was engaged to develop several entertainment concepts for the chain's 50th anniversary in 2011. These plans were scrapped with the exit of Shapiro and his team.

One unique concept was that each park would stage a live show (tentatively titled "The Main Event") that would take place on sets comprised of historical artifacts from the park's past. The concept art was based on relics sitting in the boneyard of Six Flags Magic Mountain, including the Buddha from The Magic Pagoda.

Cloud Lake is an integrated resort concept developed by Legacy Entertainment for Chinese developer Zhixin. Planned for the city of Chengdu, the design features retail, hotel, and theme park components, all centered around the theme of water.

As has been widely publicized, early iterations of 'Vidanta World' explored the option of the entire project carrying the Cirque du Soleil banner. In this iteration, one themed zone was the 'Village of the Sun'- a boutique theme park zone which paid tribute to Cirque du Soleil and its most popular creations. This area was designed to serve as a hub with access to the resorts other attractions, including a water park and nighttime entertainment district.
