More delays and a legal battle as LRCH have additional time to change plans and Merlin (and some other bodies) are saying they are using that time to make substantial changes which were not part of the original proposal that went to public consultation. It's a big old mess!

A planning application bid for a £2.5bn theme park proposal in Kent will continue to go ahead after it was called into question by rivals who said they needed to be withdrawn.

Merlin Entertainments – which run Thorpe Park, Alton Towers and Madame Tussauds – claimed new submissions for the London Resort, planned to be between Dartford and Gravesend, amounted to a "material change". The company, the second largest tourist attraction operator in the world behind Disney, said they wanted to see the plans pulled entirely to allow members of the public, authorities and businesses to comment due to what it said were fundamental changes taking place.

It comes after London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), the group behind the proposals dubbed Britain's answer to Disneyland, were granted a four-month extension to amend plans after the Swanscombe Marshes were granted protected status.

A host of environmental groups, including the RSPB and Bugslife, also wrote to the Planning Inspectorate saying the documents set to be submitted were considerably different to the original application. But the leading member of the Planning Inspectorate panel which will assess the application says they will consider whether new documents "amount to a material change as and when they are submitted".

It was initially expected the meeting would be held between September 27 and October 18 with final documents from LRCH due to be submitted by September 3.

Mr Cowperthwaite said inspectors would confirm the date once they had "an opportunity to review the updated and new documents and relevant consultation responses as and when they are submitted". He added it was unlikely to hold the meeting before October 18 with a decision not expected until at least September 17.

Speaking previously, LRCH boss Pierre-Yves Gerbeau said there were no plans for any "material change" to the application but admitted there would have to be amendments taking into account the new SSSI status.

I heard a rumour that Tron Lightcyle was due to open February 30th 2022 but now I can't find the source anywhere. Does anyone know if this was officially announced or did I just see someone's guess?

It has been nearly six months since the installation of the canopy framework on TRON Lightcycle Run started. With even more canopy work completed in January, we can report today that the temporary supports for this framework are now being dismantled.

Another possible attraction for the UK?

A huge theme park worth £300m could soon open if Blackpool Council can secure land for the major build.

The firm expected to dominate the site will be the Chariots of the Gods Entertainment Park which is an indoor theme and adventure park inspired by books from the 1960s and 70s by Swiss author Erich von Däniken, reports the MEN.

What happens next. An application for the above project was received by the Planning Inspectorate from London Resort Company Holdings on 04 January 2021. The application documents for this application will be published on this website in due course.

From the day after receipt of the application, the Planning Inspectorate has 28 days to review the application and decide whether or not to accept it. The acceptance decision on this application should therefore be made by Monday 01 February 2021.

If the application is accepted, we will:

* As soon as practicable after the acceptance decision, publish the date from which you will be able to register to put your case on the application (by making a Relevant Representation) and become an Interested Party.

If it is like the current Chinese Hello Kitty park then it will be comparable to something like a Magic Kingdom rather than a thrill park. So expect rides that are suitable for the whole family and some for slightly older children and adults but aimed at the younger families in the main.

The year 2021 was supposed to have been a banner year for Walt Disney World. The Florida resort will mark its 50th anniversary in October, and there are some E-ticket attractions and more in the works that Disney had said would be ready for the big celebration. Now, the rollouts have been delayed, and their timelines are murky.

Ratatouille will open in 2021...

The focus of the resort’s 50th anniversary appears to be on Epcot. The world’s fair-like park is undergoing a major transformation. The company says that Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, a ride-through attraction at the France pavilion that will use trackless vehicles, will open in 2021. Based on Pixar’s “Ratatouille,” passengers will shrink down to the size of Remy, the rodent who longs to be a gourmet chef, and join him for misadventures in Gusteau’s restaurant. The World Showcase pavilion will also welcome an actual eatery, La Crêperie de Paris. It will offer both savory and sweet versions of the trés délicieux pancakes.

Tron likely will not open until at least 2022...

Another big-ticket, eagerly anticipated roller coaster, TRON Lightcycle / Run, is under construction next to Space Mountain in the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. The launched ride, which will also include indoor scenes, will be themed to the “Tron" sci-fi movies. The coaster isn’t expected to open during the park’s 50th birthday year.
