The plots of land for both Sanya Hello Kitty Theme Park and Sanya Hello Kitty Hotel have been adjusted from commercial, financial and entertainment land to residential land.

The land that was going to be used for Sanya Hello Kitty Theme Park now appears to be for "Sanya Vientiane City" (三亚万象城) which "will bring together comprehensive retail, global cuisine, world-class entertainment IP, cultural and art centers, and all-factor duty-free experience to create a new global shopping holiday destination." Unfortunately these new plans do not seem to include an outdoor theme park in the layout.
