Someone's not happy with his investment on that island:

Here is a glimpse from yesterday. The Real Madrid Resort & Theme Park is supposed to be built on Island 3, part of the already existing Al Marjan Island. The pictures show some construction (residential?) on or next to Island 3. Not sure if work is going on since I have seen it only on that specific day. But certainly no coasters yet!
My guess is this was the first and the last time we heard from this project. Another brand burned.
I hope my doubts are unfounded, I'd really like to see it happen!
and...The executive in charge of the island's development company told reporters that it is still working to line up investors, raising questions about financing for the 5.4 million square foot (500,000 square meter) project just a week after it was announced in Madrid.
RAK Marjan Island Football, the project's developer, plans to begin seeking out investors in a "road show" next month, Chief Executive Louis-Armand de Rouge said. It is targeting banks and individual financial backers in both the Middle East and Europe.
He declined to say how much Real Madrid and its local business partner, the government-controlled RAK Investment Authority, are putting into the project, but he insisted money won't be a problem.
"I have no doubt at all," he said when asked whether the project had adequate funding. "The problem is not so much who is going to invest ... because we know that it's going to be invested," he added, without providing specifics.
Source:Stefan Zwanzger, a German amusement park enthusiast who blogs about the industry and has lived in the Emirates, questioned the viability of the Real Madrid project, likening it to the over-the-top announcements common in the heady boom years in Dubai before the financial downturn.
"When I heard this announcement, I felt like I was back in 2008," he said. "Whenever I see a theme park being announced at that scale, I never believe it 100 percent. There are many steps that have to be taken" before it becomes a reality, he added.

Source:The complex, with US$1-billion of investment and backed by the government of the Emirate, is scheduled to open in January 2015, the club and executives said. It will include a five-star hotel, beachside bungalows and an amusement park with a rollercoaster and hologram show recreating Real Madrid’s goals.

Source:“This is a strategic project for boost Ras Al Khaimah and Real Madrid,” said Louis-Armand de Rouge, chief executive of the project, who referred to it as “Sportainment”. “There are already many high-profile people in the region invested in football, but not in this way. I think this is a unique project.”
Mr De Rouge did not say who was providing the cash for the project, owing to confidentiality clauses, but he said that some regional sovereign wealth funds, as well as money from outside the UAE, would be involved.

And this is where it's supposed to be built (Island 3? It looks like the landfill is already completed):
Will this really happen?
Status: on hold, probably dead
