I like how Paramount is still trying to license theme parks, considering the failure that was Paramount Resort in Murcia, Spain. This actually shares some similarities with that, albeit with newer, more popular IPs at their disposal. Seems like a good deal this time.
Interesting change of IP there. I personally would've preferred Peanuts Town to be honest, but I guess Nick is a more viable decision for the young kiddos.
Development of Paramount Park Kunming is moving forward! Recently a new draft of the "Paramount Theme Park Construction Project Environmental Impact Report" was shared online by the Kunming Dianchi National Tourism Resort Management Committee. The new draft repeats many of the details in the previously posted environmental impact reports but there are some significant changes. One of the park's six areas, Peanuts Town, appears to have been replaced by "Nick Joy City" which will be a Nickelodeon-themed area featuring three popular cartoons: Spongebob Squarepants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and PAW Patrol. Because this Environmental Impact Report is a draft, not all the information about Nick Joy City is available yet but here's what information is listed (paraphrased from Chinese):
- There will be a ride named 'Bikini Bottom Bubble Battle' which is possibly a Rafting Ride by abc rides. The ride's area is 3950 square meters.
- There is a ride named 'Fiery Fist O' Pain'. There are no ride details but it is assumed to be a wooden roller coaster based on the ride shown in the Spongebob Squarepants episode "Roller Cowards".
- Another ride is named 'Spinning Jellyfish'. No details are given.
- There also seems to be rides named 'Mrs. Puff's Boating School' and something that roughly translates to "Mr. Krabs versus Plankton".
- 'Barg'N-Mart' seems to be the Spongebob gift shop, there's also a 'Glove World' kiosk, a Spongebob show of some sort, and last but not least 'The Krusty Krab' is listed as a restaurant.
- For PAW Patrol there's a bumper car ride, The Lookout, City Hall, a kiosk, a lake, and a show.
- For Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles there's a show that roughly translates to 'Turtle Time is Up!' and a ride named 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Training Camp' that's 3190 square meters in size.
- Nick Joy City also has a general Nickelodeon 4D theater and store.
The Environmental Impact Report states that the total construction period for the theme park is 48 months, with plans to start construction in December 2023 and finish it in December 2027, and then open the theme park around February 2028.
This month the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning announced plans to revise the land where the theme park's located from being categorized as a heritage site to "recreational and sports land and commercial business land". Also, plans are underway to relocate the small village located on part of the theme park's land.

On May 13 www.ynhouse.com visited the site of the park to check the progress. So far no construction can be seen and there's no Paramount signage promoting the theme park. Construction was scheduled to start in January 2021 but it's not necessarily surprising or concerning yet that nothing is happening besides some ground clearing.

This early concept art from 2017 is our first look at Peanuts Town, which so far has just been placeholder design and referred to as “Wonderland” - this specific image does not necessarily show Peanuts Town in Paramount Park in Kunming - it could be a design for London or Korea or just a general design with no specific park in mind but some aspects of this concept art match the plans for Paramount Park in Kunming and it’s the only park so far to confirm having a Peanuts Town.

On October 23 the chairman of the investment group that is developing the park met with the President/Deputy Party Secretary of China Metallurgical Group, which has participated in the design and construction of Shanghai Disneyland, Universal Studios Singapore, Universal Studios Beijing, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom and other theme parks. The topic of the meeting was "cooperation in theme parks and other fields".
