New patents filed by Universal Orlando for the changes around the removal of Dragon Challenge.
The permits for Universal's project dubbed "U O 942" show the theme park is seeking to work on a 7.44-acre site in the heart of its Islands of Adventure theme park. The documents say the work is for "renovating an existing area within the overall IOA site. Includes revisions to existing ponds and storm structures."Most notably, the permit shows a map of the work area that includes nearly a quarter of the entire Islands of Adventure footprint, from the northwest corner that occupies the Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Hogsmeade and east into parts of the Lost Continent and south into the backstage parts of Jurassic Park.
That map confirms the rumors that Universal's Project 942 — which filed for a series of demolition permits with the city of Orlando in late July— is, in fact, the new "highly-themed coaster" attraction replacing the Dragon Challenge coaster at Islands of Adventure that the theme park announced last month.
