"Legacy Entertainment launches Destination Dining initiative. Company is developing new food-focused experiences"

Legacy Entertainment, a leading theme park and resort design company, has announced that it currently has three food-focused projects in development, in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and China.

“The future of retail is not retail,” says Barry Kemper, Chief Operating Officer and co-owner of Legacy Entertainment, as traditional retail continues to adapt and evolve in a fast-changing global marketplace and new retailtainment concepts gather pace.

Food-focused experiences:

Building on this evolution, Legacy Entertainment has come up with the idea of a unique, food-focused anchor tenant, in order to help malls and retail destinations to attract more visitors. It is now developing three of these ‘destination dining’ experiences around the world, the first of which is near Jakarta in Indonesia and is expected to be unveiled this summer. The company is also working on similar projects in China and Saudi Arabia.

“While shopping habits may evolve and change, the desire to dine together is intrinsic to the human experience. It’s here to stay, and we’ve only begun to scratch the surface of how far we can take it,” adds Kemper. “Of course this is not to say dining will replace retail, but we do anticipate that the anchor tenants of the 21st Century will put a priority on dining and entertainment.”

Community hubs
Other new dining experience concepts have already proved successful, such as Eataly which has expanded to more than 30 locations in the last 10 years. In Asia, which is a primary market for Legacy, the immersive Wenheyou Supurb is also extremely popular.

As well as the restaurant tenants, the company’s destinations will also include other entertainment elements, such as immersive environments, live entertainments, and even carefully integrated rides.

“Hospitality lives or dies on repeat visitation,” says Kemper. “We are very sensitive to the fact that we cannot merely repeat the gimmick-based themed dining tropes of the 1990s. Instead, we need to craft truly unique, brand new experiences which in and of themselves become part of a community’s fabric.

“We are creating community-focused hubs which will serve as sources of pride for those who live nearby, and must-see destinations for non-locals. Our team is excited to share the first of these breathtaking developments very soon.”

Last year, The Legacy Entertainment-designed Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park was recognised with three major awards at the Golden Crown Awards.

Following the enthusiastic response to the Hengdian World Studios Shanghai Bund, the developer has been collaborating with Legacy Entertainment on a variety of second gate concepts.

Jordan’s largest waterpark is set to launch this July. Housed in the heart of Aqaba, Saraya Aqaba Waterpark will welcome local and international tourists for the first time this Summer.

Covering more than 28,000 square metres of space, guests are promised the ultimate aquatic adventure, with plenty of opportunity to slide, float and swim with more than 25 attractions.

'Journey to Paradise' was a 3D Boat Ride planned for Las Vegas' iconic Tropicana Resort pre economic crash in 2007. Designed by Legacy Entertainment, the ride would have taken guests on a serene journey through a fantastical tropical world, mixing 3D media with practical sets and special effects.

One extremely unique feature of this attraction was its Halloween overlay.

Instead of re-dressing the main attraction, boats would have traveled through a completely separate section of the ride. This space, which doubled as the ride's BOH maintenance facility, would have been outfitted with permanent sets, rigging, and special effects that would only be utilized in September and October of each year.

The Mattel Adventure Park will open at Glendale, Arizona in late 2022 in Crystal Lagoons!

'Let's Dream!' at South Korea's Lotte World theme park is approaching its 7th anniversary. The nighttime spectacular is notable for several major innovations, including the first use of Drones in a theme park, the first use of 'Hologram' effects in a parade, as well as many first-of-their-kind theatrical effects. It is also notable for its integration of park guests into each unit, with the 'hero spot' on each float reserved for a child visitor.

SeaWorld Orlando surprised the theme park industry by announcing that Howl-O-Scream will be coming to the park this fall. This video shows the media event that the park had for this big announcement.

'The Kaleidoscope' is an immersive museum-style experience designed in collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and Legacy Entertainment. Rather than literally recount the history of the brand, the experience would take guests behind the scenes of the creation and operation of a Cirque du Soleil show, including experiences above, on, and below the stage.
