  1. On February 14, DXB Entertainment posted a loss of Dh484.8 million for last year on total revenues of Dh75.9 million. In 2015, it lost Dh110.9m but its attractions were not *operational.

"A large portion of our loss reflects pre-opening expenses which are captured within our project cost," said Raed Al Nuaimi, the chief executive of DXB Entertainments.

The DFM-listed company, which has about 3,100 full-time employees, said about Dh63.4m of revenue came from the Legoland, Bollywood Parks and Motiongate theme parks which opened between November and December last year. The Dubai Parks and Resorts complex received 323,489 visits in the last two months of 2016.

"We know that the coming quarters will be more indicative of the destination’s appeal to visitors from across the globe, as we start attracting business from global tour and travel operators," Mr Al Nuaimi said. "We expect all remaining rides and attractions as well as the remaining units at [retail area] Riverland Dubai to be available to the public by the beginning of the second quarter."

It is marketing the destination in Saudi Arabia, India and the UK and has also tied up with 120 hotels in Dubai to promote the parks.

"Visitation numbers at Dubai Parks and Resorts were somewhat underwhelming, falling 40 per cent to 50 per cent short of consensus expectations, and so was the reported average spend per visitor," said Mohammad Kamal, an analyst with Arqaam Capital. "This is, however, likely to improve as the business fine- tunes the offering."

DXB Entertainments’ Six Flags Dubai resort is on track for a late 2019 opening after construction started in July, DXB said.

  2. 250 Room Legoland Hotel confirmed this morning in a press release from DBX Entertainment and Merlin group. No opening date yet.

  3. This picture was officially provided by DBX Entertainment when they launched the project. There is even a better one in full colour, here :

As we can see, there is plenty of space to expand.

What's the source for this image? That's really interesting and I hope that is the plan to grow further.

I visited Motiongate again today. I only had 3 hours and have to say the park is coming along very nicely.

First off. Madagascar Mad Pursuit was running amazingly well. There are no inversions but a nice animatronic scene followed by a fast launch and some amazing airtime. Since my last visit a lot of the show elements have been improved and the whole ride is full of props that light up and near misses with all manor of objects. The ride was always amazing but the addition of the show elements really turns this into a world beating ride. I won’t give too much away but its easily the best ride in the park at the moment.

The Ghost Busters block party was as camp and amazing as ever. Even with the B team performing today to around 20 people they still put everything into it. Its a total must see if visiting the park.

Smurfs Studio Tour was running well today with several new effects working although some lighting effects still didn’t work properly.

Ghostbusters was running well and the guns seemed quite accurate now.

Hotel Transylvania was running ok although some of the physical effects weren’t working, although several new lighting effects were.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was testing with all the rafts running without water dummys and, looking from the Zombieland Blast Off Tower the ride seems larger than I had thought. On that note. the tower is still very good, with a very well themed queue and a ride that provides an amazing pop of airtime and very comfy seats! and yes, its an s and s.

I didn’t do much else today other than take photos.

I did go to the Step up Dubai all in show. Although the performance was stunning as always it still suffers from poor attendance and far too loud sound. This is clearly because the level is set to a fuller auditorium but with the public being made to sit in the front section close to the speakers I heard several people including me complaining about the loudness.

I had lunch at Baby Brents Luncheonette. the 2 slices of pizza I had were very good and reasonable. Although the tiramisu was ok, but the price AED 29 the same as my 2 large slices of Pizza was ridiculous.

Overall it was a great day, it was very quiet as I was there early on a weekday. One last mention has to go to the amazing staff. Everyone, including the guy sweeping trash, asked my how my day was going!

Here's the 1st batch of pics, they are mostly of Riverland
