Today the groundbreaking ceremony took place!

"While maintaining the authentic LEGOLAND® experience, there will be innovative designs, new themed areas, rides and immersive shows launched for the China market. The LEGOLAND® Shenzhen Resort will integrate the history, culture and ecology of Shenzhen and China. The park will also be a smart park, celebrating technological innovation, imagination and creativity in Shenzhen. The Resort will include a combination of indoor and outdoor play areas to account for the climate in Shenzhen. MINILAND, one of the core areas of all LEGOLAND® Parks, will be indoors to create a large, themed area with high-tech digital interactive experiences, while paying tribute to the beauty of Shenzhen and China through representative landmarks, cultural and everyday life scenes. In echoing local characteristics, we have also developed a live show exclusively for Chinese families, and the Resort will feature the world's largest LEGOLAND® theatre with more than 1,000 seats. Playful learning is a unique feature of all LEGOLAND Parks with educational interactive offerings such as creative robot workshops, the Driving School and the Rescue Academy which will all feature at the Shenzhen resort.”

As a follow-up to this, the third gate's name is "Lego Discovery Park", not to be confused with Legoland Discovery Center. The name itself could be a placeholder as well.

The size of each of the three parks are Legoland - 262,700 square meters, Legoland Water Park - 96,500 square meters, and Lego Discovery Park - 103,000 square meters.

Yesterday, February 24, the government in Shenzhen released the masterplan for Legoland Shenzhen and the surrounding area. As you can see in the masterplan, there is three gates plus a retail, dining, and entertainment area in the middle. The gate on the left (also the largest) is Legoland Shenzhen. Certain themed areas of the park can already be identified including Lego Castle, Miniland, and Lego City. The gate on the bottom right is clearly Legoland Water Park. The gate on the top right is more mysterious - at least one of the roller coasters shown in the layout looks quite large and no theme is indicated. Perhaps the entire layout of the top right gate is placeholder.

Legoland Shenzhen is another upcoming Legoland in China. The park will be located on the Dapeng Peninsula, specifically on land along a bay that was reclaimed coastal wetlands for aquaculture. These ponds are currently being filled in. Not many details are available yet for this park but as the land continues to be filled in we will hopefully get official announcements.
