(Shenzhen, Jan 15 2025) Today, John Jakobsen, Merlin’s Chief Strategic Portfolio Development Officer, and his team visited the construction site of LEGOLAND® Shenzhen Resort to discuss the latest developments. Relevant officials from the Administration Committee of Dapeng New District also participated.

John Jakobsen shared, “Looking back over the past year, the construction of LEGOLAND Shenzhen Resort has been progressing positively, brick by brick, with a strong focus on creating a safe and high-quality experience filled with creativity and imagination for everyone. To our delight, construction of the themed areas within the LEGOLAND Theme Park is nearing completion in terms of civil construction. The most signature area of these, "LEGOLAND CREATIVE WORLD" has seen positive progress. Its main structure, being the largest individual building in the theme park, has successfully completed the important construction milestone of steel structure truss installation in late November 2024 and has now entered the topping-out phase. Anticipating 2025, LEGOLAND Shenzhen Resort is entering an accelerated phase, constantly building for fun.

Not only is the park itself progressing positively, but with strong support from the government, the surrounding transportation and infrastructure for LEGOLAND Shenzhen Resort are also seeing active developments. Relevant official of Dapeng New District shared that the Xinda area, where LEGOLAND Shenzhen Resort is located, has been incorporated into the key construction area of Dapeng New District. To further improve the supporting facilities around the project, Dapeng New District is promoting the construction of more than 20 basic supporting projects in an integrated manner. These projects cover hotels, transportation, municipal facilities, parks, railways, and intercity railways, with a total investment reaching 30 billion yuan. Currently, the main line of Pingxi Road, serving LEGOLAND Shenzhen Resort, has been completed. The main structure of the Xinda parking lot for the Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Railway Dapeng Branch has been topped out. This branch, known as the "Mountain and Sea Special Train," starts from Longcheng Station in Longgang District and ends at Xinda Station in Dapeng New District. All internal municipal roads in the area have been opened to traffic. The exterior facade and equipment installation of Pengnan 110KV Substation have been completed, and the construction of supporting facilities such as the Xinda Passenger Transport Hub and the reconstruction project of Xinda Seawall has started one after another. In the future, Dapeng New District will continue to uphold the development concepts of innovation, coordination, green development, opening up, and sharing. It will further accelerate the construction of supporting infrastructure around LEGOLAND Shenzhen Resort, make every effort to provide high-quality services, create a favourable development environment, and continue to support the construction of the LEGOLAND Shenzhen project.

According to a social media post, Hazens Holdings, the park's local partner, no longer has the ability to invest and is considering how to exit. As a major municipal project, Dapeng District will continue to promote it and Merlin will continue to operate it. But there is no clear conclusion on who will take over and fund the project. It is likely to be a state-owned enterprise platform company. It depends on whether the government can provide financial subsidies, return land prices, etc., to further promote it. Another comment on social media is claiming that the park will move forward, but most of the steel for the rides is from the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works steel plant in Ukraine, which has caused delays.
