Foundation work on each of the park's seven areas is underway and they are "confident" they will be able to open the park during the first half of next year.

According to a recent article Legoland is being accused of building concrete foundations over ancient ruins, causing them to be damaged. Apparently Legoland is claiming that the concrete foundations are being made without pile construction to avoid damaging the ruins. Despite this, they are still being criticized because some feel that destruction of the ancient ruins cannot be avoided.

The good news is it seems that some form of construction is actually taking place!

The bad news is that apparently new financial problems have arisen regarding this past summer's construction company switch (Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. and STX Construction Co.) and Gangwon Jungdo-developments Corp. (GJC), an investment arm of Gangwon Province. I'm not totally clear on what is happening but it seems that GJC is low on funds and is considering selling the land around Legoland such as where the theme park's parking lot will be located.

More financial complications for LEGOLAND Korea.

The Chuncheon Legoland project is in a dilemma over the payment of 60 billion won in Gangwon Province's investment.

According to "Kangwon News" on July 22, although the Legoland developer Merlin Entertainments demanded 60 billion won in investment from Gangwon Province and the Jungdo Development Corporation by July 22, the possibility of a delay in the construction of the project is being raised as STX, the existing construction company, has decided to press ahead with a lawsuit in case of the deposit of the investment.
"STX still manages the site under the authority of the builder, and under the current circumstances, Hyundai Engineering & Construction can never enter the site," an STX official said, stressing, "If the province pays 60 billion won to Merlin, we will consider this as a unilateral notice of cancellation of the contract and take a legal action."
