The government has said it would not rule out having a third-party investor in Hong Kong Disneyland if economic circumstances changed for the city and the theme park.Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Greg So Kam-leung made the comment at a four-hour Legislative Council finance committee meeting on Friday. The government was seeking approval for a HK$5.8 billion injection of taxpayers’ money into an expansion project for the park. The six-year expansion will feature thematic zones based on the blockbuster Frozen and Marvel superhero films, as well as a transformation of the Sleeping Beauty Castle. The expansion is due to start in 2018, but Legco meetings for approval have gone on since November, and Friday’s session ended without a vote.

The US entertainment giant promised to inject an additional HK$330 million for the park's expansion, taking its total contribution to HK$5.45 billion - the same amount to be committed by the government once lawmakers give the project the green light.A document sent to lawmakers yesterday showed a revised plan in which Disney and the government would fund the project on an equal basis, or HK$5.45 billion each. The money would be injected into Hongkong International Theme Parks Ltd - the joint venture company that owns Hong Kong Disneyland - to support the expansion plan at the Phase 1 site of the theme park. The plan aims to fund the launch of at least one new attraction almost every year from 2018 to 2023, which would increase the number of themed areas from seven to nine.

Source: http://www.investopedia.com/news/walt-disney-could-get-less-hk-disneyland/The Hong Kong government released financial information about Hong Kong Disneyland, in which it owns a 53% stake, after pressure from local lawmakers last month. They wanted details on the financial agreement with Disney, particularly the royalties and management fees it paid the California media giant. The request on the part of lawmakers came as the government requested HK $5.8 billion in funding to expand the park over the course of six years, the Post reported. The lawmakers are vowing to veto the funding request unless the government negotiates better terms with Disney.
