  1. Even if Genting win the lawsuit, will the park still go ahead? Would a win mean they get the proper licensing as well?

Regardless of the answer, it would be great if Genting also contacted any/all potential employees (they've been auditioning since the beginning of 2018 at least), or at least made an announcement so that all potential characters/employees aren't dragged along with everything, waiting to see if they still have a job or if they should start looking for another job.

  2. I think Genting better issue a clear statement very soon on what they intend to do with the assets built so far - can they be salvaged and rebranded, or is the whole project effectively terminated?

The parent company of Genting has lost billions in value on the Malaysian stock exchange in the past 48 hours due to the lawsuit announcement.

  3. Disney and Fox rejected Genting's claims in lawsuit over 20th Century Fox World theme park.

Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) and Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (FOXA.O) on Tuesday rejected claims in a Malaysia casino operator’s lawsuit accusing them of abandoning a licensing contract tied to the planned construction of a Fox-branded theme park.

Disney and Fox said Genting Malaysia Bhd’s (GENM.KL) respective claims against them were “without merit.”

Genting shares fell 16.7 percent on Tuesday, a day after the Kuala Lumpur-based company sued the American media and entertainment companies in Los Angeles for more than $1 billion. The decline came before Disney and Fox issued their statements.

According to the complaint, Fox Entertainment Group, under pressure from Disney, breached a 2013 contract to license its intellectual property for a planned theme park at the Resorts World Genting complex, an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital.

Genting blamed Fox for years of delays, and said Disney, which is buying many Fox assets for $71.3 billion, wanted to back out altogether because partnering with a gaming company did not fit its “family-friendly” brand strategy.

The complaint also said Fox issued a default notice in a manner consistent with Disney wanting to “kill the deal.”

Twentieth Century Fox Film, one of the defendants, rejected that allegation. “The allegation that Disney, rather than Fox, finally decided to declare a default is simply made up,” a spokesman said.

  4. This is ridiculous, shameful unprofessionalism from Fox (and Disney, by extension).

Knowing some people who have been working on the project inside Genting Malaysia, it's apparently been non-stop obstruction and foot-dragging by Fox for almost 5 years.

Bear in mind that Genting actually demolished their existing leisure park to make way for Fox World. Massive loss of current and future revenue.

The litigation and appeals will take years, and in the meantime Genting is left in limbo with a 70% complete theme park that surely can't be retrofitted to eliminate Fox IPs (you can't change a Planet of the Apes ride to Planet of the Giant Bunny Rabbits very easily!)

  5. I'm afraid this might affect The VOID as well... Star Wars themed

  6. Genting Malaysia has now officially sued The Walt DIsney Company & Fox, as Disney was trying to back away from the theme park being developed.
