Europa-Park unveiled this Tuesday evening an ambitious and innovative cable car project on the Rhine. The Mack family, owner of Europa-Park, are working on new developments, at five or ten years, with amongst other projects a cable car that would cross the Rhine into France. Roland Mack and his eldest son, Michael Mack presented their cross-border project Sunday to French President Emmanuel Macron.
Still at the stage of the project's beginnings, Europa-Park cannot currently give precise information, such as the exact length of the cable car. Two variants are under study, more than five kilometers long: between Rust and Rhinau or between Rust and Diebolsheim.

In the end, the project could also include the construction of a hotel and even a third park on the French side. The details are currently being examined in consultation with the French and German administrations. Europa-Park has more than one million visitors from France each year, and more than 1,000 employees commute between Alsace and Rust on a daily basis.

On September 14th Mack Rides released this interview with InPark Magazine about Rulantica but I thought it was interesting to note about the rebuilding of Pirates of Batavia also.

We are on track for opening this new waterpark near the end of 2019. We have a great team immersed in the very complicated, detailed building process. At present, we are starting on the roof soon as well as the intricate rockwork.
Many of our competitors have a lot of slides. However, in Germany it is difficult to get permits for fiberglass slides – it takes two years. So many other operators don’t want to go through that process, which is why you see so many steel slides in this part of the world. We wanted to bring in the unique experiences and slide components that fiberglass offers so we took the time to go through that process. In Rulantica you will see a lot of slides not often found in European waterparks. We will have family raft slides, hybrid slides and more. ProSlide and Aquarena are helping us create some amazing slide experiences for our guests.
Everyone wants to know if we will rebuild the Pirates of Batavia attraction. Right now, we are planning on rebuilding the attraction as people remember it. Our fans really love that ride. We got thousands of letters from people saying they loved Pirates of Batavia and hoped that it would be rebuilt quickly.

We will also be rebuilding the Holland and Scandinavia lands. In the process we will improve some of the buildings and facades to create more immersive environments, as well as update some of the infrastructure. I am confident that guests will love it even more than before. We expect that rebuild to happen soon.

Monday, August 13, 2018, the first of the five wooden support beams of the roof of the future aquatic universe " Rulantica " was installed. The wooden piece is 87 meters long and consists of two rooms of 37 and 50 meters. The latter was raised by a special crane and placed on one of the concrete columns.

By the end of the week, the five support beams, each weighing 110 tonnes, will be in place and will form the roof of the future roof. Currently, " Rulantica " is the only building site in Germany where wooden beams with such dimensions are used.
