I wonder if Universal Studios Dubai will still have the same plans for the rides that they had on the brochure when it was announced in 2007

Despite a number of high-profile developments remaining unfinished in the wake of the economic downturn in 2008, Hani Al Hamli, secretary general of Dubai Economic Council, said Dubai had access to funding to finance these new projects.

“We do have our own resources and way to finance… We are sure that these projects will be achieved,” he said.

When pushed on where these funds would come from, Al Hamli did not go into specifics, commenting that financing would occur via sources within the UAE.

“We have our own resources in the emirates. I don’t want to disclose… This is managed by the finance department.

“When it comes to resources, we are part of the UAE and we have our own networks… There [are] neighbours who have massive natural resources. At the end of the day, [in] the UAE there is solidarity and a good governance and leadership,” he said.

In contrast to its oil-rich neighbour Abu Dhabi, Dubai's government does not have the large fiscal reserves needed to finance large-scale projects.

  3. As far as I am concerned all these announcements have got nothing to do with Dubailand:

A new city is to be built in Dubai which will feature the world's largest mall, a theme park complex and 100 hotels.
As well as the gigantic Mall of the World, the city will also house 100 hotels, a 455-acre park and an international family attraction in collaboration with Universal Studios.
The family tourism section will be set up in collaboration with Universal Studios and include more than 100 hotel facilities to meet the needs of visitors to the region. It will also house a US$2.7bn (2.1bn euro, £1.7bn) complex made up of five theme parks including one based around India's Bollywood cinema industry. There will also be an adventure park featuring Hollywood brands, a marine park, a children's park and a night safari.

Blah, blah, blah. Does anybody take this seriously?

  4. Why does everybody refer to a Universal Studios theme park? Where is the official announcement of a Universal THEME PARK being built? The press reports only talk about a mall for which Universal Studios acts as an adviser.

Is Universal Studios moving to Mohammed Bin Rashid City or is it still staying in Dubailand?

Where is the Marvel Adventure construction site on these City of Arabia photos? Anyone can tell?

  7. Nope

  8. Will this be part of Dubailand?

Phase one of Dubai’s newly approved AED10bn (US2.7bn) entertainment and leisure development, which will include five theme parks based on movies and characters from Hollywood and Bollywood movies, will be completed in 2014, it was confirmed on Monday.

Dubai master developers Meraas Holding have been appointed to develop the project, located at Jebel Ali, Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s office announced online.
Dubai Adventure Studios, a Meraas-backed project which was originally announced in 2011, will anchor the new expanded development. Set to be completed in 2014, it will include popular Hollywood brands and a range of rides and attractions, the statement said

There will be five theme parks in total, including Bollywood Parks, which will partner with major Indian film studios to showcase Broadway-style Bollywood musicals and attractions.
