Avatar Land in summer 2016?

File this one under the folder titled “speculation,” but could Disney’s Avatar expansion open up by summer 2016?

That may be the case based on an airport passenger traffic forecasting report made by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority on Oct. 2, which tags Disney’s planned Animal Kingdom addition opening in just three years.

Iger also expressed confidence in the yet-to-built Avatar Land planned for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney has provided few details about the project since announcing it two years ago, and fan interest has been tepid on some Disney Internet forums.

“We’re very excited about Avatar Land,” Iger said. “I think that will generate substantial growth down there.”

thats been pretty much confirmed the FOTLK is moving behind tusker house so they can close CMM for Avatar

Whoa! Somebody swallowed the Kool-Aid. I was THERE today and spotted this gigantic new building behind the Tusker House restaurant, and went and talked to one of the staff who told me it was going to be the new home of The Lion King. That building will hold 100 Lion Kings - it is HUGE. This has to be the cover story - and that has to be the building that will house Pandora. Fellow tried to keep a straight face when I put him on the spot too. They have been told not to admit it.

earlier this week, I was told that two construction trailers have recently been set up out behind the barns that house the animals which wander the savannahs at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. And that these trailers will soon serve as construction headquarters for Phase One of the "World of AVATAR" project.

Walt Disney World is preparing for the arrival of Pandora. Today Disney confirmed the relocation of the popular “Festival of the Lion King” stage show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom from its longtime Camp Minnie-Mickey home to a new theater in the Africa section of the park, set to open in 2014.

The show has been a staple of Disney’s Animal Kingdom since it opened 15 years ago and Disney has no plans of closing it any time soon. But with a themed land devoted to James Cameron’s soon-to-be “Avatar” series of films on the way, Disney is moving a few things around in the park to get ready for groundbreaking.

Joe Rhode will NOT be attending the 15th anniversary ceremonies, as earlier planned. A lot of people are speculating that this means Avatar is behind schedule, or the original plan has been altered.
