  2. Disney has confirmed new Star Wars and Avatar attractions are coming to Disney World.
The news was broken on Disney's Insider blog by Dave Fisher, show producer at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Pavilion, when talking about what to expect at the D23 Expo in August.

"We have a technology called DISH, which stands for Digital Immersive Showroom, and we'll show how it’s helped us design several attractions — visitors will be able to virtually ride two attractions, the same way we do when we're testing them," said Fisher.

"We're also going to be doing sneak peeks at upcoming projects including Disney Springs, the re-imagining of Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Resort. There will be teasers for Avatar and Star Wars at the Disney Parks."

The Orlando Business Journal says that the Star Wars theme park plans to “dwarf any other Disney-related expansion in its recent history.” Furthermore, the plans call for a project costing more than $200 million (which was the initial estimates when rumors first surfaced).

The same source told the Business Journal that while the Cars Land rumors are also accurate, they are nothing compared to what’s in store for Star Wars.

  4. I think you're giving them too much credit. Let them announce something first.

  5. A new report at Theme Park Insider, citing multiple sources, says that an entire Star Wars Land will be added to Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, FL. Don’t get in line just yet – Theme Park Insider says Star Wars Land is projected to be a five-year project, meaning it wouldn’t open until 2018, though there is a possibility of that being accelerated by a year.

Multiple sources have told me the long-awaited dream of theme park geeks everywhere is actually happening. Disney's moving ahead with both Cars Land and Star Wars Land at the Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.

So what about Star Wars Land? The logical places for that expansion would be on either side of the existing Star Tours ride. From what I've heard, it appears that the expansion would take out the area between Star Tours and the auto stunt show stadium, including the Muppet theater and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play area. But I've also heard of consideration of going in the opposite direction, which would place the new land on the site of the Backlot Express restaurant and Indiana Jones stunt show theater. Given that the Indy theater's used for several other events throughout the year, and that both the Muppets and Honey I Shrunk the Kids attractions long ago passed the height of their popularity, I'm hearing more forceful arguments for the first option.

This appears to be a five-year project, putting completion in 2018, though Disney could choose to throw money at it and accelerate it by a year.
