Micechat have put up a really detailed explanation of what to expect from Disneylands Star Wars Land. It's a long article but worth the read and even if only half of it ends up as reality it's going to be pretty amazing and well worth a visit.

The final layout of the land has a northern and western perimeter walled off from the outside world by massive show buildings over 150 feet tall that will push right up against the existing toll lanes and tram route that parallels Disneyland Drive. Built to look like sheer rock cliffs and forested mountains from inside the land, the show buildings will be partially sunk into the ground yet still tower overhead

While the perimeter structures of the Star Wars land are huge and elaborately themed, they will be nearly impossible to see from anywhere else in the park as they’ll be obscured by a tree-lined berm built just north of the new Rivers of America route, along with the existing forested hills east of Fantasyland and north of Critter Country.

Disney posted New Concept Art of the reconfigured new back stretch of the Rivers of America with the DDRR shown passing along a new trestle. You can see the new rockwork that will be built up behind the tracks to hide the show buildings for SWL. I like how it gives a real Western Wild River feel to the area, and I'm very glad to see the Indian Village, and the Cabin appear in this artwork. Who is to say if they really show up, but it looks great as they are showing it now.

Disneyland will close a couple of attractions to make way for the construction of Star Wars Land.

10 attractions and eateries will close in January.

To build the new 14-acre "Star Wars" area, the park will permanently close Big Thunder Ranch in Frontierland, Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, Big Thunder Ranch petting zoo and Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree, starting Jan. 10.
Nearby attractions on the Rivers of America — mainly Fantasmic, the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, the Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, the Disneyland Railroad and the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes — will close temporarily.

Screamscape.com shared some ideas about how Star Wars Land may probably look like:

...one of our sources have sent in a little more information about the possible ride experience, though keep in mind that the attraction is still under design and a lot can change between now and when it opens.

That said, I'm told that guests will board a vehicle where it appears that they are sitting inside the cockpit of the Falcon. In reality, there will be several such vehicles (unseen) on a track layout, where the ship will take off and move into a large star field projection room at first. Eventually the cockpit ships will move into place behind an individual projection screen for the simulator/action portion of the ride. The way this will work was described to me as being similar to how Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey works during specific sections of that ride, where the individual rider pods are placed inside a projection dome that is mounted to a huge carousel structure. The projection domes and rider pods will move around the carousel in sync during these sections of the ride, where the guests may have some control over the action taking place and what the outcome will be.

Work officially begins next year but in the meantime, Star Wars related attractions will be available at Disney's Hollywood Studios by December such as the Star Wars Launch Bay, an improved Star Tours and an updated version of Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple.

This is another render which has not yet been posted....

Another article that discusses the possible changes that can occur in Disneyland thanks to Star Wars Land.

The area selected for the expansion is in the Northwest corner of the park, between Critter Country and Fantasyland and includes Big Thunder Ranch, the Rivers of America, and Tom Sawyer’s Island. Much of the expansion inside the original Disneyland park has been accomplished with surgical precision

Disneyland Resort officials announced a few days ago that several attractions will have to close for more than a year to make room for construction of Star Wars Land. An interesting article from micechat.com explained more about this:

The end result is that to cobble together enough acreage for the two big E Ticket show buildings, plus the facilities inside the land itself, Disneyland’s Rivers of America and the Disneyland Railroad will need to be heavily modified and rerouted to make it all happen. The track of the Disneyland Railroad will be realigned for the first time since 1965, when the rails were rerouted further north to prepare for the arrival of It’s A Small World and adjusted on the eastern side of the park for the new Primeval World diorama. Additions to Disneyland since then have caused years-long closures of the railroad for the construction of Splash Mountain in the late 80’s and Indiana Jones in the mid 90’s, but those big additions didn’t change the route of the tracks in any meaningful way.

The new railroad route will make a sharper right turn past Splash Mountain and head out towards what is now Tom Sawyer Island and the Big Thunder Ranch area. The tracks will pass along the backside of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad before making another dogleg turn to the north and joining the current alignment near the existing Toontown station. The Fantasyland Theatre will head off to Yesterland as the new railroad alignment is sent through that area, carving out some new acreage for a future Fantasyland expansion that is gaining steam with TDA planners now.
