"We will see a significant drop in capital expenditures in 2013," the CFO said. "Of course, Shanghai is ramping up for its opening in 2015. So on a consolidated basis you'll start to see new capital spending show up in our capex line for Shanghai Disneyland, and remember, that project is roughly $4.3 billion, of which we are investing 43 percent and the Chinese government 57 percent."

John W. Sorenson and Joseph R. Parinella, design supervisors at the Shanghai Disneyland Landscape Department, led a 20-person design team to visit Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden on Sept 9.

The members of the Shanghai Disneyland design team came from many countries and regions such as the UK, the US, Singapore and Hong Kong. They hope to incorporate Disneyland’s landscape construction with the characteristics of botanical gardens.

The delegation consulted with researchers at Chenshan Botanical Garden regarding plant materials and technology for plant landscape construction. They also visited Quarry Garden, the conservatory and Aquatic Garden and studied aquatic plants, greenhouse plants and ground cover plants in the garden.

  7. It's very important that the land will be really dry before they begin to build on it and it's something that WDI Imagineers are really taking care of. Why? Because - and it's not known - problems happened at Tokyo Disneyland some years after TDL opening, precisely because the land was not enough dry. Some buildings began to had some cracks, etc... as the ground had moved because it was not really really totally dry when they've built on it. When they've built Hong Kong Disneyland, which like TDL is built on a land which was the sea before, the Imagineers didn't forgot the TDL problem and waited enough time to have a perfect dry ground. Sure, the SDL choosen site was not the sea previously but all the water of the previous rice fields may be didn't helped. Again, this is my own speculation, so it might be another reason that we may never know.
