How come there's no updates here for so long?
URB has reopened for a few months now (I think) and packed with tourists.
A meeting of the local government last week mentioned that they are pushing the construction of Phase 2 among many other projects, without giving any details.

A panoramic pic of the site from the roof of a nearby building this morning. The green thing covered area should be the park, maybe larger. The new subway line 7 will be built under the main road in this pic. The road goes west into the direction of Beijing City Center.

    infrastructure: metro/subway update.

Someone published the "environmental impact report" of the line 7 east extension project.
There will be two subway lines reaching the universal studios beijing before it's ready to open, both extending existing subway lines: Batong line ( itself the east extension of line 1) and line 7.
The east end of batong line was already close to the theme park, they will build one more station. Line 7 is quite far, people have guessed where it'll go and where the stations will be, in this report we have the first official information on it. It's all underground, (batong line is above ground). There will be 8 new stations. There will be a vehicle base near the end of the line, marked on the map. The end station will be near citywalk.

You can compare it with the earlier plan of the park.

This is a non-official subway map of 2021 beijing. The two lines reaching the park are near 4 o'clock, the red line is batong, pale orange is 7. There's another important new rail transit that might reach the park, the S6. (it's not on this map because it's no longer subway, but something faster i think). It will connect the two main airports of beijing (the new one being built right now), in the old plan it will go past somewhere near the park, and they say they are looking into whether they can change it to go through the park directly. New plan will come out before june I think. They are making a whole lot of new plans for this larger area of Tongzhou, the shinny new 2nd center of Beijing.

    * I made a mistake earlier. It's not a "totally different" plan. I missed the two blocks of normal buildings in the new(?) plan in the 2nd pic so it's just somehow different.

It fits another pic I found.

This plan is totally different from the plan in these older pics. In the new(?) plan, the park lies in the north.

    Some updates.

These pics were taken just now near the yellow dot on the map. The green area is the park. The grayish area is the extended area of the park. This map may not be accurate, just a pic I got from the internet.

These pics were taken facing east, towards the park area. You can see on the blue door frame thing that they are changing the course of the Empress Xiao river, probably according to the park design. I think you can see the river bed in the pic, it's wider than the old/current river -- more curvy. The green fabric is to reduce smog. You can see we have some smog today.

These pics were taken facing west. There's some new demolition. I think there used to be some buildings several stories high, now they are gone exposing a factory behind them. By the way, the dog market should be somewhere in this direction (west). It's one among many demolitions and relocations, not just for the park. I think I mentioned in a previous post, the whole tongzhou district got upgraded into the 2nd center of Beijing and the industries that doesn't fit the new purpose (pollution, labor intensive etc) are all being relocated.

There's not much in the pics because most of the area are enclosed with walls blocking the view now, and they are still doing groundwork.

They said construction will begin on October; looks like it's on schedule. The gate and guards are new, (on the north point of the site). They didn't stop me from going in though. The diggers and a few sheds are also new.

The rest is pretty much the same. Morning glories everywhere.

Found cute river bend on the west side of the site; part of the same river I think.

l live nearby, so i went there for a look last week. not much is new, except the grass grows taller now, but i took some pics anyways. it's still quite a shock because there used to be so many buildings where now it's only grass, i'm surprised they grow so well.

you can see the river (the empress xiao river) which will go through the park or by it i think, they tore down an old bridge, and someone is unhappy that their house was tore down "illegally". i'm sure they will sort it out, as far as i know they are generous with the compensation. the pics of the buildings are nearby resident complexes to the north of the park. 10 years ago there's nothing but farm land. the villagers who used to live there now live in the taller red buildings with white top. in the pic behind the buildings across the road would be the park area. the other pic with buildings, the camera was facing west, so the park area is out of view on the left side.

on related subjects, they are extending two subway lines (line 7, and batong line, itself being an extension of line 1) eastward to reach the park. they are also building a new line connecting the two airports of beijing (the new one is being built) and it will probably pass by the park.

central government made a big dicision about beijing, to move many institutions and facilities to the east suburb of tongzhou district, to upgrade it to a "second center" of beijing, in order to solve the many problems the city has now. that's our dictrict, where the park is in. this is a good message, because lots of money and talent and attention will pour into this larger area, and projects in it will gain higher priority. we already see many improvements of infrastructure.

the air pollution problem of beijing, which was worst two years ago, has seen fast improvement. which is of course not necessarily a good thing, since the government here has greater power in their hands to achieve the goals they desire. at least this one is which we all desire. i'd like to have faith that they will solve the problem.

will go check the site out from time to time.
