RSG Takes Lead in MAPS and Enters into Partnership with MONSTA

PETALING JAYA, April 8, 2015: RSG, the co-owner and co-developer, together with Perak Corporation Bhd of Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS), today entered into a partnership with MONSTA, an animation content developer and creator of BoBoiBoy.

The partnership with MONSTA paves the way for BoBoiBoy to have his first theme park home in MAPS, and be the first local animation character to join the MAPS animation family of popular animated characters from DreamWorks, like Mr. Peabody and Sherman, The Croods, Megamind and Casper the Friendly Ghost.
MAPS is RSG’s inaugural foray into best-in-class integrated family entertainment theme parks and resorts.

“While RSG is committed to redefining family fun, MONSTA is redefining family entertainment through animation. Together we have a synergistic partnership that excites and meets Malaysian and Asian family values,” says RSG founder and chairman, Ramelle Ramli.

He explains, “From day one, RSG led the MAPS project. And, from the very beginning, we have had tremendous support from Perak Corporation; financial institutions who believed in us and the project, and the Sanderson Group, our turnkey contractor, who is fully mobilised on site and is currently at 40% completion. Together we are making MAPS a reality.”

Moving forward, RSG’s middle to long term plans in redefining family fun in Malaysia will include Phase II of MAPS, which will comprise a hotel, serviced apartments, and a unique lifestyle retail and dining concept that will serve theme park visitors, Ipoh residents and commuters from Penang to Kuala Lumpur.
RSG is currently working on securing a few more integrated family destination projects in strategic locations in Malaysia that are expected to be announced by end of the year.

In line with its growth strategy, RSG is also open to invitations to participate in projects and forge new partnerships that are aligned with the company's mission to redefine family fun.

    About RSG
Ramelle Ramli, founder and chairman of RSG led the MAPS project from the beginning via a majority shareholding in Sanderson Project Development (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (SPDM), which recently changed name to RSG MAPS. This name change was primarily to position RSG as the co-owner and co-developer of MAPS, and to reflect RSG’s expansion strategy in the development of integrated family entertainment theme parks and resorts in Malaysia and Asia.

The park is located right on the North-South highway with high visibility and strategically placed half way between Malaysia's two biggest urban areas: KL and Penang.

Also Perak has got amazing tourism potential. In addition to new design hotels, cool cafes, a new arts scene, MAPS will bring fun to this beautiful part of Malaysia!

Reports that a new Legoland is to open in South Korea are wide of the mark, according to Legoland operator Merlin Entertainments.

Local media had cited government officials as confirming a 280,000sq m (3,013,895sq ft) Lego-based theme park, which would open in 2016 and aimed to attract more than one million visitors per year.

The reports said Legoland Korea would be located on a 1.29sq km (13,855,444sq ft) site on Jungdo Island in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, with Merlin investing US$97m (€70m, £58m) as the operator, while LL Development, a special-purpose corporation for Legoland Korea, would invest US$374m (€270m, £222m) in the park.

However, a spokesperson for Merlin Entertainments said no project in South Korea had been agreed or was near agreement – even though the site was one it has been looking at, among others, for potential expansion of the Legoland concept across the world.

The spokesperson added that the next project Merlin was likely to announce was not a Legoland in South Korea.

The park will actually be more of a mix of Universal Studios with amazing rides based on some of the most famous DreamWorks animation movies (Casper The Friendly Ghost, Megamind, The Croods, Mr Peabody & Sherman) and Futuroscope with great attractions designed in partnership with some of the best local talents to provide visitors with a unique experience. There will be a total of 40 rides & attractions, which is more than Walt Disney Studios in Paris.

MAPS: Putting Perak on the tourism ‘map’ with world-class animation theme park

Ipoh, Perak 30 March 2014 – Malaysia is set to have its first animation theme park with the construction of the Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) – a RM450 million partnership project between Sanderson Group and Perak Corporation Berhad – in the ground-breaking ceremony here today.

With the Menteri Besar, Dato Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir in attendance, the ceremony also sees MAPS as being the state’s key project and having both official endorsement by the Perak State Government and Malaysia’s Tourism Ministry.
It also marks the inaugural investment in Malaysia by the Sanderson Group, Australia’s first integrated thematic construction company specializing in designing and constructing theme parks and entertainment destinations.

Aptly coincided with the Visit Malaysia Year 2014, and in addition to the goals set by Tourism Malaysia to achieve 36 million visitors by 2020, Perak – with its strategic location at the heart of Peninsular Malaysia, and on the highway linking Kuala Lumpur to Penang – is indeed the favourable place for the MAPS project.

“Although Perak, with its offerings of countless adventures in the rainforest, heritage and food, magnificent limestone hills and caves and relaxation at island resorts is notably the most visited state in Malaysia by domestic tourists (with up to 5.85 million visitors last year), most tourists tend to visit the state only for a brief while without spending the night,” says Datuk Aminuddin Md Desa, Chairman of ATP and Chief Executive of Perak State Development Corporation.

“Thus, the development of MAPS will then seek in boosting Perak to realise its full potential as one of Malaysia’s top tourist destinations, where tourists can also experience a world-class theme park adventure, which includes over 40 rides and attractions as well as a variety of themed food & beverage and retail outlets throughout a 52-acre site,” he adds.

MAPS Perak is targeted to be opened at the end of next year, and will be featuring 6 different zones forming together an animation-based fantasy environment, which include Animation Square, Fantasy Forest, Live Action, Space Zone, DreamWorks and the Lakeside Zone.

MAPS will offer a dedicated zone in the theme park bringing to life famous DreamWorks Classic properties such as Mr Peabody & Sherman, Casper the Friendly Ghost along with others including The Croods and Megamind.

Additional zones will be inhabited by other animation characters created specifically for the park by some of the best creative talents from Australia and Asia.

MAPS will also be home to Asia’s first car stunt show and is poised to be the only ‘live broadcast’ theme park in Malaysia with real-time broadcast throughout the park and on the internet of its live shows, immersive rides and dynamic attractions.

“For visitors’ comfort and convenience, the majority of the theme park will be indoor, air-conditioned or undercover, shielding guests away from Malaysia’s hot, wet and humid weather,” says Mr. Steve A. Sanderson, Director of ATP and CEO of the Sanderson Group.

Future plans - for Phase 2 of MAPS - include hotels, serviced apartments, waterpark and street mall.

With the aim of receiving 1.4 million visitors (80% domestic, 20% international) in the first year of operation, MAPS is set to provide a friendly and caring Malaysian hospitality experience for tourists around the world.

Keep tab with all the latest info on the project at www.mapsperak.com and catch some glimpses on the construction progress. Without a doubt, MAPS - being Malaysia’s first animation theme park - will create fond memories and allow visitors to ‘live their dreams’.
