Nothing was ever built here. The old beach resort and the big rock are were they always were, but nothing close to a theme park.

I think this project is dead and buried. I can find absolutely nothing about it apart from people quoting press releases which are more than 18 months old.

Can anyone local shed any light?

    Worrying news from the site.

Not only is this story worrying because those in charge of managing this site have lost the local hotel and can no longer run it, pay staff or operate but also because of these quotes...

When Y visited the resort at the weekend, the land where Majarat Oman is planned to be is still empty scrubland with not a digger or construction worker in sight.
This is dated 29th June 2016

Al Tatawur Development had also unveiled plans for Majarat Oman, a RO40 million indoor water theme park to be constructed on 25,000 square metres of land adjacent to Al Sawadi Resort. First mooted in 2013 and again in 2015, theme park specialist, the Sanderson Group of Australia, was said to be onboard. A foundation stone was laid on March 2015 with a planned soft opening of late 2016 or 2017 and then it all went quiet.
Y contacted Syed Asad Ali, the managing director of Al Tatawur Development, but he did not respond to our calls or messages.
Basically the company behind the "indoor water theme park" had a hotel next door but it financially collapsed last year and currently has unpaid staff living in it waiting to be paid for over 2 years. I wouldn't expect to see any movement on this soon.

No updates yet when the specific date will be, but Majarat Oman will definitely open soon!

Oman will soon open its first, state-of-the art waterpark the Barka province. The 40-million-riyal water park, Majarat Oman, is set to accommodate over 1,200 visitors daily.
